Toastmasters elects officers
Members of the Hilo Toastmasters Club elected new officers who began their terms July 1.
The new president is 18-year-old Alexander Cozad. Home-schooled since kindergarten, Cozad excels in creative writing and storytelling, and shows great potential as an inspirational orator.
Other officers include Chandra Fulton (future vice president of public relations), Lucy Maloney, NJ Moses (outgoing area governor), Sharon Justice (outgoing president), Sharla Sare, Bonita Babas, Sherri Carden, Ramprasad Rao and Mark Morikawa.

Home-schooling conference set
The Hawaii Island Homeschool Network will host its first conference for families interested in learning more about home schooling or are currently home-schooling.
The conference is planned from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the North Hawaii Education and Research Center in Honokaa. Cost per family is $25 preregistration online or $50 at the door. Pupu and a light lunch will be provided.

Teen transition program backed
The Arc of Hilo received a $5,000 grant from the John M. Ross Foundation for its “Teens in Transition” program.
The program gives students the opportunity to extend their vocational training and be mentored and guided in their learning/work stages. The funds will be distributed as stipends, or incentives, for Arc of Hilo’s student training programs.
Free concert at Honokaa Library
Margot Kimble will perform a free public concert at 4:45 p.m. July 16 at the Honokaa Public Library.
Enjoy an afternoon of mid- to late-’70s folk music with guitar and vocal performances mixed with storytelling. After being discovered at the age of 16, Kimble has come full circle and performed at many libraries on the Big Island. Her music is influenced by folk-rock stars Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and others.
